One of #MilesDavis most famous tunes is #SoWhat. Arranged by #GilEvans with the signature melody payed by #PaulChambers on bass and #BillEvans on piano, the tune kicks off with Miles’ unforgettable trumpet solo. This was back in 1959 on the album #KindofBlue which many say is the most important album in all of jazz.
But my interest comes in a bit later, when the father of #vocalese, the inimitable #EddieJefferson wrote words to and sang his version of Miles’ solo, based on riffs and phrases from the original solo. Jefferson’s album was called, #ThereIGoAgain, which in my mind is one of the finest vocal albums ever.
It’s not surprising that I love vocalese. I get to sing and write at the same time. I use #ChetBaker trumpet as inspiration and I am working my way down his archives. Most of what I’ve already done is on YouTube. And here on FB.
But I have been itching to sing this tune and here it is with @mrsunybass, Mauro Sereno from Italy, and @pavel_ershovv on guitar from Moscow.
How I wish I could do the song live with them on a stage with a lovely audience. Maybe one day. Maybe not. Who knows.
Sound by Ale Rosenblat and video editing by Lautaro Luna Binder, both from Argentina.
Hope you like it.
